How to choose the right marketing agency: 12 questions to ask

Designer's desk with brand guidelines, swatches and a Rolodex

Choosing a marketing agency is a 12–24 month decision. The wrong pick costs six figures. Here are the 12 questions we tell founders to ask every agency they shortlist — [Lightdrop](/) included.

1–4: Team and ownership

Who from the pitch will actually do the work? What is the turnover on the team? Which senior lead owns my account day-to-day? How many other accounts does that lead run?

5–8: Scope, pricing, reporting

What exactly is included every month? How is scope creep priced? What does month-3 and month-12 reporting look like? Can I see a real client dashboard?

Compare their answer to our pricing breakdown — anything vague is a red flag.

9–12: Craft and outcomes

Show me three campaigns you're least proud of, and why. What's your SEO philosophy? (Compare to ours.) How do you approach social and creator marketing? (See our social-first playbook.) What outcome will you commit to in writing?

If the answers feel like they were written by a chatbot, they were. If they feel like a senior operator, you've found your marketing agency. Talk to Lightdrop.
